The Morning Routine

The Morning Routine

Does your morning routine consist of slapping the snooze button multiple times, ODing on caffeine and heading out the door?

You can do better!

Tweaking this morning rush can help your physical, psychological, emotional, and mental health and set you up for success.

A healthy lifestyle is more than what you do in the gym and what you put in your body. It starts with how you start the day.

Here are some considerations:

Exercise your brain
Reading books, playing an instrument, learning a new language, or working on a puzzle can help you learn better all day. Writing in a journal can also exercise your brain and put you in a mindset of gratitude.

Hydrate
Since you’ve been sleeping for hours, you wake up needing to hydrate. Grab for water before coffee. Bonus tip: adding a pinch of Himalayan salt to your morning water can boost your health since it contains over 80 minerals and elements essential for the body.

Stretch
You’ve been stagnant all night. Doing a quick stretch can improve circulation as well as flexibility. Plus, it’s very calming for the mind and body.

Get Natural Light
Get that vitamin D! Natural light helps regulate our circadian rhythms (you will sleep better) and releases serotonin— a mood-boosting hormone.

Make Your Bed
This supports you in being organized for the day. Remove the clutter and feel less stressed.

Breathe
Since the diaphragm acts as a respiratory and core postural muscle, diaphragmatic breathing can help you focus your mind.

Nix the Phone
Immediately grabbing your phone to check email and social media can distract your mind and set you up for distractions for the rest of the day.

Note: You don’t have to do it all. Wake up 10-15 minutes early, start with one new element of a heathy routine and work it until it becomes a habit.

What will you do tomorrow morning?!
