Do you do what you’ve said you’re going to do? Prioritize your commitments? Take responsibility for your words?
This is the basis for integrity.
Having integrity requires reliability, honesty, and self-discipline.
If you find that you don’t always follow through on your promises, no matter how well-meaning you are, I have some ways to cultivate the mindset (and actions) of integrity.
- Be mindful of your words: Think carefully before making promises and commitments. This often requires setting boundaries.
- Set realistic goals: Don't overcommit yourself.
- Plan and prioritize: Create a clear plan of action to achieve what you promised you would.
- Follow up with action: Don't just talk about it, work to complete it.
- Reflect on your behavior: Regularly assess your actions and identify areas where you can improve your follow-through.
Integrity allows people to trust you and value your word. In turn, that improves your self-esteem and builds stronger connections with people.
The high road is always respected. Honesty and integrity are always rewarded.- Scott Hamilton
